What affectionately began over
20 years ago as a private collection
of exotic and domestic animals
has become a delightful zoo
and a relaxing escape for the
entire family.
Waccatee Zoological Farm is
located within 500 acres of
private, carefully preserved,
wooded property. Along winding
trails, beneath shady trees
you'll find over 100 species
of animals, all treated like
family. This zoo receives no
state or government funding,
just lots of T.L.C. Located
where the Waccamaw River, Intercoastal
Waterway and Socastee Creek
join, Waccatee Zoo is a natural
wildlife sanctuary and breeding
ground for many species of migratory
birds. At several times of the
year it's not uncommon to see
more than 1000 beautiful egrets
or heron in one small area.
Enjoy fun food from our snack
shop, relax and enjoy the view!
"We simply
love animals - and we always
have. We wanted to create a
very natural place where people
could walk around and enjoy
our family. We are not interested
in a concrete jungle. The interest
shown by local people, and by
church and school groups, have
helped us decide to open Waccatee
to the public."
